Prairie Horticulture Certificate (PHC) Program Requirements

Regular Admission: PHC Program applicants are required to meet one of the following admission requirements:

  • 17 years of age and older
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

Special or Mature Admission: if you do not meet regular admission requirements but are 21 years of age or older , you may apply with:

  • a recommendation of the Selection Committee following a personal interview; or,
  • a recommendation of a Professional Agrologist (PAg), a person of similar qualifications, a high school teacher, or a member of the horticulture industry. The person submitting the recommendation must have known the applicant for at least two years. 

Probationary Admission: if you are not admissible in either the regular or special category, you may apply under probationary admission and register for two courses (one course per term). If you successfully pass both courses with an average mark of 60% or better, you will meet regular admission requirements.

Transcripts

Please provide official transcripts of your secondary and post-secondary education to our office with your application for admission form.

  • If you've completed high school in Saskatchewan, official statements of high school marks as issued by the Department of Education are required. Saskatchewan Grade 12 statements may be requested at an approximate cost of $15.00 from: Student Services Unit, Saskatchewan Education, 1500-4th Avenue, Regina SK S4P 3V7 or telephone (306) 787-6012
  • If you've completed high school outside Saskatchewan, or have attended any college or university other than the University of Saskatchewan, you may arrange to have two copies of  your official transcripts sent directly to the PHC Program Office.
  • Photocopies of high school standing and post-secondary education are acceptable and must be received by the application deadline. For details, download the PHC Handbook.pdf
  • Permanent Residency Status: If you have permanent resident status in Canada, please submit a copy of your record of landing certificate to our office with your application for admission. 

To Apply, download the application form, follow the guidelines, complete it and mail it to our office. Please be sure to include the admission fee and any applicable transcripts. Once you are admitted in to the program, you will receive a letter with your University of Saskatchewan Student number and PAWS NSID (Network Services ID) password.
